ABOUT US~

THE LEGEND OF BREWSTER'S.....
BREWSTER’S is named after Pt. Roberts’ first land owner, Horace Brewster. Legend has it, Brewster wanted the entire peninsula named in his honor, but when local residents balked, he left for elsewhere in Washington state where he eventually was able to accomplish his goal.

Local chef, Joan Roberts, brings 20 years  experience in fine dining to a Point Roberts 1910 heritage home. BREWSTER’S Fine Food & Spirits offers a fresh alternative to residents on both sides of the border by providing quality cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere.

Joan’s reputation for exceptional food and attention to detail, long established locally through her years at the Hawthornes Restaurant, Tsawwassen Golf & Country Club and more recently with her own catering business, has rewarded her with a local following whose phenomenal support has meant an early success and growing reputation for BREWSTER’S.

And so BREWSTER’S opening on May 1st 1996 marks the date that two people’s goals were realized - Joan has the restaurant she always dreamt of, a place where people feel comfortable  while enjoying fresh local cuisine and wines of the northwest...

... and Horace Brewster finally acquired a namesake on the Pt. Roberts peninsula of which he would be proud.

THE LEGEND CONTINUES......
....Adapting to the changes in the community is one of the challenges Joan has most embraced over the past thirteen years in business at Brewster's. "Point Roberts has been good to me and I want to give back". Over the years, Joan has been director of the Chamber of Commerce, responsible for bringing the Community Van Service, worked with the US Consulate General in Vancouver on border issues affecting business in Point Roberts, and cofounder of the Point Roberts Dollars for Scholars scholarship foundation. Ever conscious of border initiatives that affect local business and economic changes, she continues to adapt her format to meet todays climate. Joan's continues to be dedicated to providing quality, healthy cuisine at an affordable price.

Joan has a passion for travel and culinary exploration. In recent years, Joan has travelled to Spain, Italy, France, Bali, Australia and wine regions of the United States and Canada. With each travel, she has discovered and studied culinary and wine pairing trends bringing her discoveries back to share with the community. Working closely with Dickerson Distributors,a Bellingham based distributor that specializes in small town customer service, Joan offers a vast selection of reknown wines and craft beers from around the world. "If we don't stock it, we can get it".

Today, Joan is working to make it easier for the community to stay connected to the county. By aligning with Avenue Breads, The Bellingham Coop, Bellingham Pasta Company, and Trader Joes, Joan brings quality, and affordability to Point Roberts. She proudly imports farm cheeses from around the country. The new format allows the community to access goods and products not easily accessable. Her every-other-day trips to Bellingham ensures freshness and selection.

Changing with the times has allowed Joan to transition from being a full service restaurant to a full service small town supplier of quality food. The restaurant will continue to offer today's culinary trends. Joan will seek out and introduce new and exciting foods in the deli.
